Leg Room

The space available for the legs while seated.

LegRoom

How to measure

Application

Used in vehicle, aircraft, and public transport seating design to ensure adequate clearance for the legs of a seated occupant at knee height.

Posture

Sit in your normal seated position with feet flat on the floor.

Landmark

Measured horizontally from the front of the seat to the nearest obstruction ahead, at knee height.

Tool

Tape measure.

Common mistake

Measuring at foot level gives more apparent space than is available for the knees. Always measure at knee height.
